Best way to job search in small towns?
I graduated last month with a paralegal degree. I moved back to the small town I'm originally from, and have not found any jobs at all, not even related ones. I've been looking in the local papers, job sites, talking to the few contacts I have. Do you think going to various law firms with resumes would help, or does that sound too desperate? I am desperate to get a job - I've even applied to jobs in the city where I went to school, an hour away, but the drive would be too much and I don't want to live there again. What can I do? I'd even settle for a dinky sales job at this point, but I don't think they want me because of my schooling. I have some sales experience, and I interned with a state agency for awhile in public relations in my undergrad (my undergrad is in communications, and I have the paralegal certificate). Should I focus on the legal jobs, going to visit firms? I sent out resumes to firms in town letting them know of my graduation, but got no responses.

- Tie a pair of glasses on some string and whirl it around in the air
- snagajob.com monster.com careerbuilders.com.....TRY THAT ☺
- Get online and send out the resume's. Try that monster.com place as well. Good Luck!
- Drive around and yell out the window.
- if you are not having any luck try temping to get in the door
- mail a resume to every law firm in town.....by mail it doesn't seem obvious & they appriciate it by mail better, this way, if they don't need you you aren't clogging up their office space.
- move good luck
- I think mailing your resume with complete contact details to all law firms would be a most excellent way to get into the network in your area. Follow up with a face to face visit in the ones that you are really interested in. Face to face with good eye contact and a positive outlook will go a long ways to getting people talking about you in a network. Explain your situation to any lawyer you know in the area and ask their advice, giving people a way to help you is the first step to finding work. Use the ajb.org website to surf jobs in your area and if you search on google I am sure there is a website that caters to jobs for paralegals.. hotjobs.com is good as well as monster.com and career builders sometimes.
- The best thing to do is.......start going in every place in town with resume and let yourself be known. IN PERSON.......WALK........ Tell them what you are there for and what you can do for them. Dress very professionally......... show a little leg,........:) and you will get a job.
- Check into entry level banking. You can then work your way up to management. Leave a copy of your resume with the manager of every business in town. See them in person. Make an appointment. Know something about the business when you go there so you can ask intelligent questions and then make them sell you on their business. Stress your public relations and communication skills. Don't forget the Chamber of Commerce or Tourist Bureau. Every community needs to promote itself and there are good (hard to fill) jobs to do this.
