Is the information I share with potential employers and recruiters confidential?

I am conducting a job search process and have been talking to many recruiters. I am concerned that the information I am sharing during my job search process is not confidential and becomes part of the recruiters database along with my resume and contact information. I am wondering if this is legal and if I can require that my conversations be kept confidential.
